Tips That Can Make Your Bouquets Last Longer
Feb 24th
Flowers are one of the meaningful gifts and liveliest decorations for nearly any occasion, all year ’round. Places such as homes and offices are more comfortable and lively when flowers decorate the place. These gifts of nature smell and look amazing, which makes them so great. They have unique shapes, bright colors, and they have the most wonderful smells only nature can provide.
The downside is that flowers tend to wilt prematurely if you don’t take care of them properly. Not everyone are florists and gardeners, but here are some surefire ways to make bouquets you receive last a little longer:
- Whenever possible, use floral foam or flower food in your vases instead of just water. These can be bought from and/or provided by your florist.
- Remember to always use a clean vase with enough space, and use clear water every day. Once the flower food solution or water becomes cloudy, replace it all immediately.
- If flower food is unavailable, you can make your own makeshift flower freshener. Simply mix a teaspoon of bleach, a tablespoon of sugar, and a gallon of water. Viola! Your homemade flower food. Some gardening experts even say you can pour a 12-ounce can of non-diet Sprite or 7-Up in half a gallon of water The acid in the soda will slow bacteria growth in the water, while the sugar will “feed” the flowers.
- Re-cut your flower stems at a 45-degree angle using a sharp cutting tool, such as a sharp knife, good pair of scissors, or pruning shears. Cut the stems underwater to allow more water absorption instead of air. A 45-degree angle stem cut will also improve the plants’ liquid absorption.
- Some flowers generally last longer than others. Once they begin to wilt, remove them from the vase.
- Get rid of leaves that will be below the vase’s waterline, because leaves in water tend to promote bacterial growth.
- Keep flowers in a cool, dry spot, in approximately 65 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit. It is recommended to keep them away from direct sunlight, heating or cooling vents, directly under ceiling fans, or on top of televisions or radiators. Failing to do so will cause your flowers to dehydrate and make them wilt prematurely.

The Development Of Flower Giving
Feb 15th
Down the ages, human feelings have found great expressions through the custom of giving flowers or bouquets. People often go to a florist to purchase flowers for all occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, to wish well to someone, to apologize, or just to lift one’s drooping spirits.
It is believed that this custom has roots in prehistoric traditions whose evidence has been dug up by archaeologists at archaeological sites. Flowers have always assumed an important role in ancient Rome and Egypt and in the glorious civilizations of ancient Greece and China whose myths and folklore clearly exhibit this custom. In these cultures, it was believed that emotions could find their most appropriate expression through the giving of flowers. In fact, in ancient Greek mythology, some flowers have even been bestowed with a divine status.
The custom of gifting flowers passed down to the Middle Ages, with the French and the English keeping the tradition strong. Today as we have assigned meaning to each flower, we are actually echoing an old Turkish custom imported into Europe by the French and the British.
Flower giving acquired much significance among the Victorians who widely indulged in this tradition. As overt expression of emotions was frowned upon during the Victorian period, the genteel Victorians cultivated excellent restraint in language and they balanced this hold over the tongue by their gesture of gifting flowers to communicate feelings.
This period saw the rolling out of guidelines for giving flowers or bouquets that we use today. To take an example, buying a bouquet of red roses from a florist and presenting to your beloved upside down would surely annoy her. This is because red roses which are mostly associated with feelings of love can convey negative emotions when they are presented to the recipient upside down. In fact, a large number of books were written and disseminated on the language of flowers in the’th century.
This tradition has come down the centuries, and today people around the world participate in the act of giving flowers to communicate their feelings. Today we have reached a stage where meaning is attributed to a lot of flowers, and preset guidelines in this custom are more important than they ever were. Presenting red roses is still considered as a passionate demonstration of love, and white lilies are believed to symbolize purity and beauty. On the other hand, a yellow rose represents friendship while a single marigold symbolizes grief.
The history of gifting flower remains as time goes by. In the other nations, it might have once seemed improper for a woman to give flowers to a man. Now it no longer registers as out of the ordinary. There are also other means of delivering flowers. Virtual or true flowers are now available through the Internet. Through advancement of science and technology, flowers can now easily bloom all year-round.
Once, only specific flowers could be grown only in particular zones or terrains, which is not the case in this modern age of science and technology. If you are located in Singapore, then a visit to a Singapore flower shop will surely provide you with the choicest of flowers, both regional as well as exotic varieties, guaranteed to express your feelings to your loved ones in an elegant manner.

Say It With Flowers
Jan 22nd
Dating back to ancient times, flowers have been used as a profession of kindness. We usually present them to those we care for. We gift flowers to let them find out how important they are, to show admiration, to celebrate an occasion, or even to sympathize. What we don’t know is that sending certain kinds of flowers, and even their colors, actually have definitions of their own.
Floriography: (Language Of Flowers)
During medieval & Renaissance times, flowers were often given moral meanings. This can be widely seen in art where saints are often shown with flowers that represent or symbolize their virtues. “Some of the Christian symbols for Virginity or Chastity are the white rose, the myrtle, a vessel or vase, the lily, and the unicorn,” according to Liana DeGirolami Cheney in an edition of Sixteenth Century Journal.
Back in Victorian times, flowers began to create or add emotion. The language of flowers, sometimes called floriography, began being used as a discreet form of communication. In the 18th century, sending messages in code using flowers became popular. Based on a Turkish secret language of flowers, known as Persian Salaam, a coded flower arrangement could be sent to declare feelings of attraction or even love.
Back in 1819, a book entirely about interpretations of flowers called “Le Language des Fleurs,” was written by Madame Charlotte de la Tour. A similar book, “Language of Flowers” by Kate Greenaway, was written in 1884 and is still being used today.
Japan also has their version of floriography, called “Hanakotoba.” Greeting cards created in Japan follow the Hanakotoba code, and still apply the flower-language in popular culture such as in films and animation, like the anime program “Wei Kreuz.”

You should first verify if the online florist has enough experience in his profession and if he is a veteran in the trade or a fresher. This will allow you to get an idea of the service quality level that the florist will be able to offer and how dependable the establishment is.
Next, you must think about the quality of the flowers provided for sale and their prices. You should make sure that you are obtaining your money’s worth in terms of both flowers and service, and online reviews can help you find this out.
Next, the delivery of the flowers should be done through a proper mode. You should see if the florist chooses doorstep delivery or the courier service to deliver flowers. You must prefer the doorstep delivery method as this will ensure quality and also the freshness of flowers. Most online florists can deliver fresh flowers at your doorstep as they have contracts with the local flower shops in the area.
